Cooperators worldwide will be hosted by the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) and the 18 ICA member organizations in India representing close to 800,000 cooperatives and 290 million cooperators.

The Indian Cooperative Movement

In India cooperatives have been an effective way for people to exercise control over their economic livelihoods. The Indian cooperative movement has the formidable distinction of covering almost 98% of rural India. Cooperatives provide a unique tool for achieving economic and social goals in an increasingly competitive global economy.

IFFCO Elections

The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), a multi-state cooperative society, hosted its first elections since the establishment of India's Cooperative Election Authority (CEA) in April and May 2024. The CEA was established to conduct and supervise elections to the boards of multi-state cooperative societies. The election process was aided by the launch of an election portal, which held nomination forms, candidate details, voter lists, and other relevant information.

The three-stage election involved voting in IFFCO's Representative General Body (RGB), electing members of the Board from different constituencies, and electing the chair and vice-chair. The elections were carried out in a fair and transparent manner, with Shri Dileep Sanghani and Shri Balvir Singh elected unopposed as the chair and vice-chair of the organisation. The IFFCO managing director, Dr US Awasthi, congratulated the board members and voters for their contributions.
